The fairytale ballet Cinderella, directed by internationally renowned ballet choreographer Benjamin Stevenson, debuted at the Beijing Tianqiao Theater on Sept 28.

Zhang Jianguo, deputy minister of Science and Technology and administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, witnessed the performance and presented the 82-year-old Stevenson with the “Most Influential Foreign Experts During 40 Years of China's Reform and Opening-up” medal. All the actors and nearly 1,000 audience members witnessed the award ceremony.

The "Most Influential Foreign Experts During 40 Years of China's Reform and Opening-up" was organized and implemented by SAFEA. After local recommendations, public voting, and expert review. The results was released at the China International Talent Exchange Conference held in Shenzhen in this April. A total of 40 foreign experts including Benjamin Stevenson received the award.

In 1978, Benjamin Stevenson, the first international ballet choreographer to come to China, introduced the development of world ballet to China. Thanks to his active promotion, the exchanges and learning between Chinese ballet and international counterparts gradually began.

The fairytale ballet Cinderella has many different versions in the world. Benjamin Stevenson's Cinderella is renowned for its strong British drama and humorous performance style, and enjoys unique status and influence in classical ballet repertoire.

This edition of Cinderella has been performed by many world ballet stars such as the British ballet "Queen" Margaux Fantine, showing its extraordinary charm.

This time, Stevenson presented his most distinctive ballet Cinderella to the Chinese audience with the younger generation of the Central Ballet.
